G2 through to DreamHack Masters Dallas playoffs over Renegades

G2 have punched their ticket to the quarter-finals at DreamHack Masters Dallas after beating Renegades 2-1 in the Group B lower-bracket final (16-7 on Inferno, 14-16 on Dust2, 16-13 on Train).

The Group B lower-bracket final between Renegades and G2 kicked off on Inferno, which was the Australian team's pick. G2 started the game on defense and won the pistol round as François "⁠amanek⁠" Delaunay and Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon got two kills each.

Justin "⁠jks⁠" Savage and Joakim "⁠jkaem⁠" Myrbostad combined in the fourth round to earn their team's first round, initiating a three-round streak to tie the game (3-3). G2 then secured five rounds in a row to lead 8-3. Jay "⁠Liazz⁠" Tregillgas and Sean "⁠Gratisfaction⁠" Kaiwai won a 2vs5 in the 12th round to stop the French team's streak (8-4).

G2 won in three maps

G2 closed out the half with a 9-6 lead and reached double digits by taking the second pistol round victory on the T-side. After losing two more rounds, Renegades responded with Aaron "⁠AZR⁠" Ward's triple kill, trailing 12-7.

amanek's 1vs2 clutch extended G2's lead to 13-7 and the Frenchmen went on to wrap up the map with a 16-7 scoreline after Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub stepped up to the plate with the AWP in the last three rounds.

The series continued on G2's map pick, Dust2. The CT-sided French team secured the pistol round victory but lost the following eight rounds. G2 managed to recover by taking five of the last six rounds in the first half, trailing 9-6 at halftime.

Renegades didn't lose a single player in the second pistol round and reached double-digits. G2 hit back two rounds later as Lucas "⁠Lucky⁠" Chastang found three kills (11-7). Two opening kills by Lucky in the 23rd round gave G2 the lead but Renegades secured the 24th round to tie the game at 12-12.

Renegades finished the event in 7-8th place

shox clutched a 1vs2 to reclaim G2's lead and the French team took one more round to lead 14-12. Renegades came back by picking up the last four rounds, winning the map 16-14.

The third and final map was Train where Renegades started on the CT-side and grabbed the pistol round victory thanks to AZR's triple kill. jkaem and company followed it up with six more to lead 7-0. G2 got on the scoreboard thanks to Lucky's triple kill in the eighth round. Renegades attained the last two rounds of the half after conceding six in a row and finished the half 9-6 ahead.

G2's strong defense resulted in a five-round win streak, which put them 11-9 ahead. Renegades had an opportunity to tie the game in the 22nd round but amanek got the better of jks in a 1vs1 to extend his team's lead to 12-10.

shox and Lucky clutched a 1vs2 to make it 14-11 and G2 went on to win the map with a 16-13 score. With the 2-1 series victory, G2 have advanced to the quarter-finals at DreamHack Masters Dallas while Renegades got eliminated.
